Importance of right diet
for Health, Harmony and Spiritual vitality
A good diet is so important for not only our physical and mental health, but for our spiritual vitality. Our bodies are temples of the divine, and how many people ingest food and drink unconsciously through usually bad habits, to suppress negative emotions, boredom or that temporary dopamine high that usually makes you feel bloated and sluggish. This then makes you feel disgusted with yourself, leading to all sorts of physical and mental problems over time.
We must see food as a form of sacred energy that aids us in revitalising our body battery, which influences our physical well-being, mental clarity, and spiritual receptivity.
A simple nature diet supports our spiritual growth.
As you walk your conscious spiritual path your vibrational frequency will heighten, which usually means you do not want to ingest heavy types of food that are slow to digest through your system. What happens then is that mostly people tend to lean towards more vegetables and fruits in their diet, whole grains, nuts and seeds etc, plus less stimulating liquids, better natural sourced water etc. The more pure and lighter the food as above which I can testify from my own unique experience gives us more energy, inner peace and clarity, which are required for undergoing any spiritual work, intervention work, journaling, meditation and physical yoga practices.
Types of denser heavier foods as in starchy, carbohydrates, over processed meat based diets are seen as dulling and promoting tiredness and making one lethargic. Overstimulating foods that are over spicy, hot etc can cloud the mind, disturbs the nervous system and emotions, and makes it more difficult to connect with your higher self, the quiet voice inside, this also is the same for drinks including caffeine, high energy sugar based drinks, alcohol etc.
Do not live to eat, but eat to live, respect your body temple!
Food is a form of cosmic energy, whats called Prana, absorbed from the suns rays through which we consume. Fresh living foods like vegetables and fruits and nuts are filled with this life force energy, and will nourish the body on a cellular and spiritual level.
A lot of people eat while watching TV, their mobile devices, computers, not paying attention to properly chewing their food mindfully, or even appreciating the flavours which is one of the great gifts of life. A lot of people gulp their food down without chewing or breaking it down properly, which can lead to all sorts of digestive issues! We must see and appreciate food as a divine gift, and mindfully really enjoy your food, and the life force energy within it that is keeping you alive to have this experience on this earth!
Our over indulgence with food and certain drinks leads to gluttony, which gradually weakens your will power, and dulls your intuition. However practising moderation strengthens your self control and inner peace. This is a great challenge within our modern world, where fast food is prominent within our towns and cities, plus pre prepared processed foods are far to easy to consume when one is mentally and physically tired from a long day at work, or within the home.
Periodic fasting is very good for the mind, body, and soul, just using fruit juices or smoothies, but not consuming solid foods, as it gives the digestive system a rest and clears accumulated toxins. It promotes mental discipline and detachment, which qualities are essential for our spiritual growth. A 36 hour fast which I do from time to time, where I do not consume any solid foods after supper in the evening, nothing to eat the whole of the next day, until breakfast the morning after. There are usually some hunger pangs that come up to inform you thats its meal time, but this is only habit, and once you ignore it, after a while it dissipates, and the fast becomes much easier then you thought it would be. You then feel lighter and cleaner inside, less bloated, you have more energy, your concentration levels are better, and also when you meditate it makes it slightly easier to be more still.
The foods we consume has a large bearing on our minds which of course are linked. Food’s effect our thoughts, moods, and spiritual perception. How many times have you consumed heavier foods to give you a lift or a boost from a low mood, only to feel after the temporary high a feeling of bloating, a come down of feeling tired, plus feeling repulsion for consuming it, knowing within your heart before you ingested it you would eventually feel like this. However these mind habits are very strong, and most people will keep repeating it as a temporary fix, while knowing that it is not good for their wellbeing. So you must choose and learn what is best for you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Observe how certain foods and drink make you feel, and intuitively choose what brings you the most clarity, calmness and energy longer term.
Blessing your food before you eat is a wonderful idea which I do everyday. Being grateful that you are able to eat so abundantly, and putting your hands over your food when you bless it, which brings you into the present moment in not taking what we have for granted. Then I say ‘Bless this food, I am deeply grateful for this nourishment to re charge my body battery, to calm my mind, and support me on my spiritual path’.
